BOTW Fleet Week 2019.JPG

The Band of the West (BOTW) is a unit of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps and is the only sea cadet band in the nation. Our ceremonial honor band is comprised of dedicated & talented musicians (11-18 years old) from around the San Francisco Bay Area.

We meet year-round on Sundays from 1300-1630 at the Flex Theater, Building 3 at Cañada College in Redwood City, CA.

Our ceremonial performance band plays unique & meaningful performances (approximately 6-8 performances per year) including SF Fleet Week, Navy Seals Tribute, Wreaths Across America, USS San Francisco Memorial, Veterans and Memorial Day ceremonies, and tributes to the storied 442nd RCT and 101st Airborne Division.  Most recently we were invited to play at the Commissioning Ceremony of the USS Tulsa (LCS-16)

Community service hours are earned through our performances honoring veterans and those who serve.

Our repertoire includes marches, patriotic favorites, larger concert band works, contemporary and jazz. For those still needing more musical foundation building and experience, we provide additional music training. All cadets receive weekly musical instruction from a team of professional musicians and instructors.

BOTW is a unit of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps, a national youth program which develops skills in leadership, basic seamanship, courage, self-reliance, and discipline. Sea Cadets have opportunities to attend trainings conducted nation-wide during the winter and summer breaks—they can learn about career fields (e.g., cyber security, aviation, medicine, law, engineering, photo journalism, culinary arts to name a few) to gain a better perspective for possible career interests they may want to pursue into adulthood.

Color and Honor Guard

The BOTW has its own elite Color and Honor Guard team.  Under the guidance of our Color Guard Commander you will be trained in all aspects military protocol and

military bearing so that you may present the National Colors at a presentation or ceremony. The Honor Guard may present the Colors, while present a contingent to bearing honors at ceremonies or funerals.

Cyber Security Training

CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program created by the Air Force Association to inspire K-12 students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation's future. At the core of the program is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, the nation's largest cyber defense competition that puts high school and middle school students in charge of securing virtual networks.

The BOTW has its own Cyber Patriot competitive team, "The Silicon Knights", who have gone on to the National Finals in Washington DC in 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022 and now 2023

In 2013 the Band of the West was commissioned into the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps.

Today, BOTW is still the

only sea cadet band in the U.S.

Our mission is to honor our nation's veterans , military personnel, and their families with our music.
